Transcript of Robert Armin's
online chat with
Tami Tappan Damiano
(June 9, 2003)

(Tami Tappan Damiano chatted from her home in Southern California.)

[RobertArmin] Good evening and welcome to the Fynsworth Alley chat room.

[RobertArmin] Tonight, my very special guest is Tami Tappan Damiano

[RobertArmin] Tami has built up a fabulous resume of musical theatre credits...

[RobertArmin] though a great many of them, unfortunately for me, have been mostly in California.

[RobertArmin] Good evening, Tami.

[TamiDamiano] Good evening, Robert!

[RobertArmin] Although you have appeared on Broadway in Miss Saigon and Cyrano, I didn't get to see you perform!

[TamiDamiano] Oh, what a shame!

[RobertArmin] Except in the ensemble of Cyrano, of course, but you also understudied Roxanne!

[RobertArmin] And I missed it...

[RobertArmin] Darn.

[TamiDamiano] Yup, I did...I used to have a bootleg tape of my perf, but it got stolen out of my car!

[RobertArmin] Well, I have the show, but not you as Roxanne.

[RobertArmin] Sheldon Harnick was delighted to discover that someone actually did preserve the show (though not me)

[TamiDamiano] Wasn't Anne Runolffson WONDERFUL???

[RobertArmin] Superb.

[TamiDamiano] I worship her...

[RobertArmin] But the reason you are here tonight is because I DID get to see you in one show --

[TamiDamiano] Not a musical!

[RobertArmin] Streetcar Named Desire, of all things.

[TamiDamiano] I know, who'da thunk it??

[RobertArmin] Yes, and surprise, surprise, you're a terrific dramatic actress, too.

[TamiDamiano] That means a lot, thanks

[RobertArmin] Ironically, I went to see Streetcar in Ventura, California because Linda Purl was in it.

[TamiDamiano] Another person I worship...

[RobertArmin] She's known for her dramatic skills, but not yet enough for her musical skills.

[TamiDamiano] That's a shame, because I love her CD!

[RobertArmin] So, the two of you together made quite a team!

[TamiDamiano] We became like sisters, we really did!

[RobertArmin] I have admired Linda Purl for decades -- so I've known all along what a musical talent she is.

[RobertArmin] I'm glad the rest of the world is starting to find out, too.

[TamiDamiano] Good for you! Yup, she's great. I hope they do get her cd...

[RobertArmin] But about you --

[TamiDamiano] oh yeah.

[RobertArmin] :-)

[RobertArmin] When did you first decide to be a "performer."

[TamiDamiano] Well, the family story is that I could sing before I could talk...

[TamiDamiano] but that's just about every kid, isn't it??

[RobertArmin] Not me!

[RobertArmin] Although I sure tried...

[TamiDamiano] oh well...the thing is I grew up in the suburbs of DC

[TamiDamiano] and when our community theatre disbanded, I was forced to look for shows elsewhere, so I got to perform professionally in the DC area from 13 on...

[RobertArmin] Doria_Hudson asks: What was the first professional show you performed in?

[TamiDamiano] Does dinner theatre count?

[RobertArmin] Kind of sad, the community theatre closed down so you were forced to make a living at it.

[TamiDamiano] If so, then "Annie" at the Harlequin Dinner Theatre...I was Duffy!

[RobertArmin] Dinner theatre always counts

[RobertArmin] especially on early resumes.

[RobertArmin] What other early shows?

[TamiDamiano] Yes, ironically closing down a theatre ended up being a good thing

[TamiDamiano] Hmmm...I was fortunate to go from dramas to musicals early on, so I also played Lydie in John Guare's "Lydie Breeze"

[RobertArmin] Good role.

[TamiDamiano] I won a Helen Hayes Award for that, and that inspired me to make a living out of theatre

[RobertArmin] I seem to be in the wrong city. Is all the good theatre outside of New York?

[RobertArmin] Just kidding.

[TamiDamiano] ha ha ha!

[TamiDamiano] Don't knock regional theatre...it's alive and well!

[RobertArmin] I don't. I just got back from a regional theatre production of Little Shop of Horrors that was excellent.

[RobertArmin] In Florida.

[TamiDamiano] really? which? Was Billy Porter in it?

[RobertArmin] Yep. And my buddy Alice Ripley (see earlier chat) and Hunter Foster.

[RobertArmin] Excellent cast.

[TamiDamiano] Yes, I know Alice, too...Emily Skinner and I were roommates.

[RobertArmin] Incredible talent (both of them, actually)

[TamiDamiano] Billy is the reason I got into Carnegie Mellon. Wanna hear the story??

[RobertArmin] Sure

[TamiDamiano] Well...I originally was auditioning under "acting option" and Billy and I met at a scholarship program in Florida a couple months before...

[TamiDamiano] so he heard me sing "Home' from "The Wiz"

[TamiDamiano] and when he found out I wasn't auditioning for Musical Theatre, he said "WHAT???"

[RobertArmin] Smart guy.

[TamiDamiano] so he told me how the program was like a double major, and I was bummed because I brought no sheet music to Pittsburgh

[TamiDamiano] so he went home and brought "The Wiz" and "Evita," two shows I'd done, so I could stay an extra day and sing and dance...

[TamiDamiano] what a guy!

[RobertArmin] What shows did you get to do at Carnegie?

[TamiDamiano] I got to do Morales in "A Chorus Line" and Cinderella in "Into the Woods"

[RobertArmin] Very versatile..

[TamiDamiano] plus Elektra in "Elektra"...I love CMU for that!

[RobertArmin] Wow, VERY versatile.

[TamiDamiano] they believe you are an actor FIRST...so do I

[RobertArmin] I did twenty shows in three years in college.

[RobertArmin] Though certainly not at a prestigious college like Carnegie Mellon

[TamiDamiano] my GOD!

[TamiDamiano] experience is experience, wouldn't you say?

[RobertArmin] Great experience. I even played Doc the old man in West Side Story. Very few people realized it was a 19 year old.

[RobertArmin] Cnamarw1 asks: What was the first professional show you performed in?

[RobertArmin] Oops, that's my fault -- wrong question.

[TamiDamiano] "Annie" at the Harlequin Dinner Theatre in Rockville, MD

[TamiDamiano] Now they are Troika

[RobertArmin] Should have been: Didn't you "improv" musicals in college?

[TamiDamiano] as a matter of fact, we did! How did you know???

[RobertArmin] Must know you... hmmmm.

[RobertArmin] How do you improv musicals?

[TamiDamiano] hmmm indeed...yes that was incredible...what an incredible class we had!

[TamiDamiano] well...alcohol always helps...just kidding

[RobertArmin] LOL

[TamiDamiano] We incorporated theatre games we had been learning, and our friend Jeffrey James played piano

[RobertArmin] I remember seeing Robin Williams and John Ritter improv Shakespeare, but...

[TamiDamiano] so we would pick a subject, start the tape recorder, and go

[RobertArmin] And you'd make up the songs as you went along?

[TamiDamiano] we would invent characters on the spot, and when we finally couldn't continue for laughing, the show was over

[TamiDamiano] oh yes, every song was made up...Jeffrey was brilliant

[TamiDamiano] ya know, it's not as hard as you think...

[RobertArmin] Sounds a lot more daring than my education, that's for sure.

[TamiDamiano] Improv is great training.

[TamiDamiano] but we just did these at parties and stuff...

[RobertArmin] So, did you continue to perform professionally while at school, or did you stop for the duration?

[TamiDamiano] we all had to stop, except once in a while the Pittsburgh Playhouse would do a show and

[TamiDamiano] ask for performers...like when they did "Dream Girls', lots of students got to do that, but for the most part, only in the summer

[RobertArmin] One of the benefits of going to a school like Carnegie Mellon (or Yale) is that you make some very useful friends in the business.

[RobertArmin] Anyone you've worked with since graduating?

[TamiDamiano] oh yes...Ty Taylor, my improv musical buddy, we did "Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber with Michael Crawford" together...he got me that audition, bless him!

[TamiDamiano] And we all were in Broadway Gospel choir together in NYC, which had started at CMU with Michael McElroy

[RobertArmin] According to the internet, you've done a lot of musical tributes and such.

[TamiDamiano] We CMUers stick together!

[RobertArmin] Plus leading roles in Singing In The Rain, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and more. What are some of your favorite roles.

[TamiDamiano] yes, I've done a bit of revues...they're not my favorite, but when it's a great composer you can't resist, ya know?

[TamiDamiano] Hmmm...favorite roles...Leonide in "Triumph of Love" is one, definitely

[TamiDamiano] It's like the Viola of musical theatre

[RobertArmin] I loved Susan Egan in that.

[RobertArmin] It's a great role.

[TamiDamiano] She came to see our production and was so sweet and complimentary

[TamiDamiano] She and I had done "Hello Again" together

[RobertArmin] Susan's a doll.

[RobertArmin] She did a chat for me, too.

[TamiDamiano] she sure is

[TamiDamiano] yes, I saw that

[RobertArmin] Though it took months to fit into her schedule!

[TamiDamiano] I'm sure!

[RobertArmin] Susan was in Bye Bye Birdie with my wife, Kristine, so we've been friends for more than a decade.

[TamiDamiano] that's wonderful!

[RobertArmin] No surprise to me when her career took off!

[TamiDamiano] none at all

[RobertArmin] I'm a good judge of talent, I think.

[TamiDamiano] I'd like to think so!

[RobertArmin] So be prepared for GREAT things....

[TamiDamiano] :)

[TamiDamiano] thank you, that's sweet

[RobertArmin] Your Stella was probably the best I've seen.

[RobertArmin] Intelligent, sexy, sympathetic...

[TamiDamiano] the best??? Oh please...

[RobertArmin] The audience could really understand why you stayed with Stanley.

[TamiDamiano] well then, my job was done

[RobertArmin] Sometimes it doesn't make sense if they don't really have a good rapport.

[TamiDamiano] but that has everything to do with Tom Astor, too

[TamiDamiano] I agree.

[RobertArmin] Yes, he brought a completely believable quality to the role.

[TamiDamiano] you have to see both sides of the coin to get the conflict of the play

[RobertArmin] None of that phony "method" scratching-his-chest-like-Brando nonsense.

[TamiDamiano] Blanche just keeps digging him until he can't take it.

[TamiDamiano] you almost understand it

[TamiDamiano] except for the rape obviously

[RobertArmin] I’ve actually never been a big fan of Brando in that role.

[TamiDamiano] really?

[TamiDamiano] It's gotta be one of the hardest roles to do

[RobertArmin] Maybe because it's been parodied so many times over the years.

[TamiDamiano] probably

[TamiDamiano] STELLAH!!

[RobertArmin] I can't watch him without thinking of Stan Freberg's impression of him.

[TamiDamiano] I don't know that

[RobertArmin] Freberg did a lot of comedy records in the 50s and Brando was often a target for his humor.

[TamiDamiano] I think of Saturday Night Live's "Dueling Brandos"

[RobertArmin] Right.

[TamiDamiano] that was hilarious!

[TamiDamiano] I've been addicted to that show since it started..

[RobertArmin] But it must be difficult to take a play that is so identified with particular performers and make it your own (which all of you did).

[TamiDamiano] We all felt that at the first rehearsal

[TamiDamiano] we said, "Ok, forget that this is so famous right NOW!"

[TamiDamiano] and I think we did

[RobertArmin] Yes, definitely.

[TamiDamiano] it was great to discover things every night

[TamiDamiano] always new things

[TamiDamiano] Linda just constantly amazed me

[RobertArmin] I wish the Roundabout would bring your cast to New York. It deserves better recognition.

[TamiDamiano] So do we!!!

[RobertArmin] Linda was easily the best Blanche...

[TamiDamiano] We'd all love to do it again

[RobertArmin] Talk about being born to play a role.

[TamiDamiano] I agree she was the best

[TamiDamiano] oh, definitely!

[RobertArmin] Her three New York experiences were less than long-running.

[TamiDamiano] I know, that bummed her out

[RobertArmin] So New York doesn't really know how brilliant she can be.

[RobertArmin] Or you, for that matter.

[RobertArmin] One thing people outside of L.A. can do, however, is listen to your singing.

[TamiDamiano] Well, New York is great, and I loved living there and I'd go back for a show in a heartbeat

[RobertArmin] With is lovely.

[TamiDamiano] Thank you!

[RobertArmin] Which is lovely, I meant to say.

[TamiDamiano] I understood!

[RobertArmin] For those who haven't heard Brent Barrett's new Alan Jay Lerner album, you're missing something quite special.

[TamiDamiano] That was great....just being handed a great song

[RobertArmin] And Tami gets to sing a duet with Brent of "Too Late Now" that is so beautiful

[TamiDamiano] I got to sing that because Reba turned it down!

[RobertArmin] That mean nasty person.

[TamiDamiano] she didn't feel she could do the song well

[RobertArmin] ;-)

[TamiDamiano] I'm like, "WHAT??"

[RobertArmin] Reba, I mean

[TamiDamiano] I know...I just thought, I love her voice but if she's not up to it, ok

[RobertArmin] Well, thank goodness.

[TamiDamiano] You're very sweet!

[RobertArmin] Your version of "So Many People" on The Sondheim Album is also great.

[TamiDamiano] Thanks!

[TamiDamiano] I gotta say, Bruce Kimmel can pick great songs for me!

[TamiDamiano] He knows my voice and how it records

[RobertArmin] One of the benefits of being a Bruce Kimmel fan over the years is that I have discovered so many wonderful voices.

[RobertArmin] You beat me to the thought!

[TamiDamiano] Yup, he's got a great ear...

[RobertArmin] Like I say, having only heard you as a singer on his albums, seeing you in Streetcar was such a revelation.

[TamiDamiano] I got "Moving On" at Laguna because I sang that song at my audition

[RobertArmin] I want you back on Broadway in your own role!

[TamiDamiano] ME TOO!

[RobertArmin] What show would you most like to do?

[TamiDamiano] :)

[RobertArmin] Revival that is.

[TamiDamiano] I was just thinking about that the other day

[TamiDamiano] I'd love to do an original piece

[RobertArmin] Of course.

[RobertArmin] Anything in mind?

[TamiDamiano] Hmmm, throw out some shows and I'll say yay or nay

[TamiDamiano] :)

[RobertArmin] No, you must have some roles you dream about doing...

[RobertArmin] ...

[TamiDamiano] One of my faves is "City of Angels" and I just did a concert version of that

[TamiDamiano] I was Bobbi/Gabby and I loved every minute of it

[TamiDamiano] and it was great to work with all the original team, Larry Gelbart, Cy Coleman and David Zippel

[RobertArmin] You also did a concert of "Lady Be Good" in Venice. What was that like?

[TamiDamiano] What fun, living in Venice for a month!

[RobertArmin] "City of Angels" is due for a revival, I think.

[TamiDamiano] I agree, we need to revive "City of Angels"

[TamiDamiano] The opera world is kinda funny, I think

[RobertArmin] How so?

[TamiDamiano] they wanted to spread their wings a little so they picked a non-opera piece

[TamiDamiano] but it was hard to expand orchestrations from a 5 piece tin pan alley band to a 50 piece orchestra

[TamiDamiano] so there were problems there

[TamiDamiano] it all worked out, of course

[TamiDamiano] but they are used to people throwing fits in Italy, I think

[RobertArmin] Who else worked with you in that? Anyone we know?

[RobertArmin] Did you throw a fit?

[TamiDamiano] No I didn't

[TamiDamiano] but somebody sorta HAD to...and only then did things that should have been fixed get fixed!

[TamiDamiano] it was kinda funny

[TamiDamiano] they were really sweet though, the ensemble!

[TamiDamiano] they loved getting to dance for the first time

[TamiDamiano] LOVED IT

[TamiDamiano] they did mispronounce "Fascinatin' Rhythm" at first

[RobertArmin] Gee, I don't know if I can fly all the way to Venice to keep up with your career...

[TamiDamiano] Ha ha!

[RobertArmin] Although Southern California's not much closer! (lol)

[TamiDamiano] Right!

[RobertArmin] 1wally asks: How would Tami like to do "Lady in the Dark?"

[TamiDamiano] OOH, I'm ashamed to say I’m not familiar with that

[RobertArmin] You certainly have the right voice for it.

[TamiDamiano] Is "A Stranger Here Myself" from that?

[RobertArmin] No, that's One Touch of Venus.

[TamiDamiano] sorry

[RobertArmin] The Ballad of Jenny is from Lady in the Dark. And My Ship.

[TamiDamiano] Oh, of course!

[TamiDamiano] I'd love to do Brecht

[RobertArmin] You should listen to the Rise Stevens version on Sony, since Maria Friedman isn't really your vocal type, I think.

[TamiDamiano] I sure will

[RobertArmin] And of course, Gertrude Lawrence rarely sang on pitch.

[RobertArmin] Though she was a great star!

[TamiDamiano] I was not aware of that!

[TamiDamiano] she sure was

[RobertArmin] Yes, as an actress, you should definitely look into Lady In The Dark.

[TamiDamiano] I remember working on "Surabaya Johnny" in college, and loving it

[TamiDamiano] Oh! I just thought of a show/role I'd love to do

[RobertArmin] I love all things Weill. His German period and American period are SOOO different.

[RobertArmin] Pray tell...

[TamiDamiano] Sunday in the Park, every girl's fave, of course

[TamiDamiano] and my first Broadway show I ever saw

[RobertArmin] Yes, another good role for you.

[TamiDamiano] I got to see Mandy when he came back

[RobertArmin] 1wally asks: For Sunday, who'd be your ideal George?

[RobertArmin] Mandy, I suppose?

[TamiDamiano] You know whose a great SoCal actor? Kevin Earley would be great

[TamiDamiano] He did Rutledge in 1776 at Reprise

[RobertArmin] Don't know him yet.

[RobertArmin] But I'll watch out for him.

[TamiDamiano] Get to know him! He's gonna be Freddy in My Fair Lady

[TamiDamiano] at the Hollywood Bowl in August

[TamiDamiano] Triple threat that boy...

[RobertArmin] TorontoDan asks: Would Mack and Mabel be of interest to you?

[TamiDamiano] Yes, definitely!

[TamiDamiano] I've never seen it, I'm ashamed to say

[TamiDamiano] I'd also still love to do the Rodgers/Hammerstein stuff I grew up on

[RobertArmin] Speaking of Mack and Mabel, do you think Jane Krakowski will finally get to do it on Broadway now that she has a Tony?

[TamiDamiano] like Maria in Sound of Music

[RobertArmin] Your voice is perfect for R&H.

[TamiDamiano] she might...I hope so...so glad she got a Tony

[TamiDamiano] thanks!

[RobertArmin] You played Flaemmchen, too.

[TamiDamiano] I like being able to switch back and forth from belt to soprano

[TamiDamiano] Yup, for Musical Theatre Guild

[RobertArmin] What is that group? You do a lot for them.

[TamiDamiano] They’re a membership theatre company that likes to perform rarely-seen works

[TamiDamiano] and well-known stuff, too

[RobertArmin] You were probably terrific in their Bells Are Ringing.

[TamiDamiano] I don't know...I was just getting my comic chops back when I did that

[TamiDamiano] I'd almost like to do it again

[RobertArmin] I wish that New York would revive the City Center idea of full stage productions, instead of just doing Encores! versions.

[RobertArmin] But I won't hold my breath.

[TamiDamiano] I know...I think the creators were hoping City of Angels could have a "Chicago"-like resurgence of interest

[TamiDamiano] if they cut out most of the set

[RobertArmin] Nowadays, they have to spend eight million every time they revive a show.

[TamiDamiano] I thought it worked pretty well as a "concert version"

[RobertArmin] Well, after Sweet Charity, maybe Cy Coleman will put his efforts into that.

[TamiDamiano] is that what they're doing next?

[RobertArmin] On Broadway.

[RobertArmin] With Marisa Tomei

[TamiDamiano] She's Charity?

[RobertArmin] That was supposed to happen, but they put it off again. The reaction to Tomei in Salome may get it started again.

[RobertArmin] She was extraordinary as Salome.

[TamiDamiano] really?

[TamiDamiano] good for her!!

[TamiDamiano] I enjoy her work

[RobertArmin] Her Dance of the Seven Veils was "hot"

[RobertArmin] And she almost kept her clothes on throughout.

[TamiDamiano] Well, she's hot, I mean, come on...

[TamiDamiano] almost???

[RobertArmin] Who's arguing...

[TamiDamiano] yeah right! :)

[RobertArmin] Some nights (including the night I saw) she whips off her tank top.

[TamiDamiano] really? not always?

[RobertArmin] But not always.

[RobertArmin] Not for the New York Times apparently.

[TamiDamiano] that's hilarious!

[TamiDamiano] LOL

[RobertArmin] Only when the mood strikes her.

[TamiDamiano] still LOL

[RobertArmin] TorontoDan says: It was because you were there, Robert

[RobertArmin] I wish.

[TamiDamiano] definitely!

[RobertArmin] So, speaking of nudity...

[TamiDamiano] Oh God…

[TamiDamiano] here it comes

[RobertArmin] Here comes what?

[TamiDamiano] well, I played Mallory in "City of Angels" in Florida

[RobertArmin] Have you done that?

[TamiDamiano] oh yes

[TamiDamiano] bared my tushy

[RobertArmin] Ah, I didn't know.

[RobertArmin] I'm sure it was lovely.

[TamiDamiano] I thought you did!

[RobertArmin] No, just wishful thinking, I guess.

[TamiDamiano] Well, that's what a tanning booth will do for you!

[RobertArmin] It's funny, I like naked women as well as the next (straight) guy, but I think it can be distracting in the theatre.

[TamiDamiano] I agree...sometimes it’s necessary

[RobertArmin] Take Me Out has a looooong shower sequence with six or eight naked men

[TamiDamiano] but these shows for shock value?

[RobertArmin] and you rarely notice their faces.

[TamiDamiano] yeah, I agree

[TamiDamiano] I mean, ...hmmm... I guess I have mixed feeling about it

[RobertArmin] I think it goes on way too long in Take Me Out. But, other than that, the play is quite wonderful.

[TamiDamiano] good

[TamiDamiano] I guess it’s different now that I'm married, ya know?

[RobertArmin] I directed a play last year in which the leading lady had to do a full strip -- the author insisted.

[TamiDamiano] YIKES

[RobertArmin] It was okay, but most of the audience seemed to feel it was gratuitous.

[RobertArmin] I think I agree.

[TamiDamiano] did you feel it was

[RobertArmin] Fortunately my leading lady was okay with it.

[TamiDamiano] that's good

[TamiDamiano] it's a case by case scenario

[RobertArmin] It wasn't all that dark. Kathleen Turner was practically in silhouette.

[TamiDamiano] KATHLEEN TURNER was your leading lady??

[RobertArmin] No, I was switching thoughts to The Graduate!

[TamiDamiano] I'm being a blond right now...sorry

[RobertArmin] In which she had a highly gratuitous nude moment.

[RobertArmin] A blonde?

[TamiDamiano] oh man...

[RobertArmin] Or another B word?

[TamiDamiano] well, a fake blond

[TamiDamiano] what b word? BIMBO?

[RobertArmin] Anyway, let's get our clothes back on!!!!

[TamiDamiano] YES!!!

[TamiDamiano] LOL

[RobertArmin] We were talking about you and Rodgers and Hammerstein!

[TamiDamiano] Oh yes!

[RobertArmin] And other roles you would like to play.

[TamiDamiano] ya know...I hate to say this, but I don't like South Pacific

[TamiDamiano] did the role...didn't like the show...

[RobertArmin] It's good when well done.

[TamiDamiano] I keep hearing that's the case

[RobertArmin] Maybe your director wasn't inspired.

[TamiDamiano] I would agree

[RobertArmin] The Arena Stage production in DC was very good.

[TamiDamiano] I love the ARENA!

[RobertArmin] You left DC too soon.

[TamiDamiano] I understudied 'The Wild Duck" years ago...

[TamiDamiano] I sure did!

[RobertArmin] You played the Duck?

[TamiDamiano] YES!! Ha ha ha

[RobertArmin] Sorry about that...

[RobertArmin] How about classical roles? You've done Elektra.

[TamiDamiano] I understudied Hedvig...and the Angry Inch! hahaha

[RobertArmin] :-)

[TamiDamiano] classic roles? I love the Spanish classics

[TamiDamiano] I'd love to do Fuente Ovejuna or Life is a Dream

[TamiDamiano] Or Ophelia

[RobertArmin] Interesting. What is your ethnic background if I may ask?

[TamiDamiano] I'm so white I glow in the dark....English/Dutch on the Tappan side

[TamiDamiano] Scottish/Irish on my mom's side

[RobertArmin] And now you're married to an Italian?

[TamiDamiano] Yeah!! They love calling me "mayonnaise face"!!

[RobertArmin] I love the name change from the alliterative - Tami Tappan - to the internal rhyming Tami Dami-ano

[TamiDamiano] Ya know, my friend and I decided everyone needs a theme song

[TamiDamiano] so "Tami Damiano" fits very well with "Fascinatin' Rhythm"

[RobertArmin] You got me on the run...

[TamiDamiano] exactly!

[TamiDamiano] He's in the Producers in LA right now

[RobertArmin] What's he playing?

[TamiDamiano] His name is Michael Kostroff, so I figured "Mona Lisa" fit well with his name

[RobertArmin] This is your friend.

[TamiDamiano] he's the Lead Tenor, and the 2nd cover for Max

[TamiDamiano] yes, my friend Michael Kostroff

[RobertArmin] What does your husband do?

[TamiDamiano] He's an actor and a personal trainer

[TamiDamiano] Check out his web page! www.ptla.net

[TamiDamiano] shameless plug

[RobertArmin] I will do that.

[TamiDamiano] it's nice...we went to CMU together

[RobertArmin] Not as easy to remember as RobertArmin.com. Another shameless plug.

[TamiDamiano] so he's really supportive

[TamiDamiano] LOL

[RobertArmin] Well, we're coming into the home stretch time-wise.

[TamiDamiano] Oh yeah

[RobertArmin] So, what shows are you doing in the future? What can we look forward to?

[TamiDamiano] well, can I talk about the CD?

[RobertArmin] absolutely.

[RobertArmin] We're very democratic here.

[TamiDamiano] it's with LML Music

[RobertArmin] And it's called?

[TamiDamiano] it's called "A Lot of Livin' to Do" and yes, I do a version of that

[TamiDamiano] it's a good mix of pop/broadway

[RobertArmin] LML is doing some great stuff.

[RobertArmin] Any guest stars? Or all solo?

[TamiDamiano] Ron Abel, who music directed Linda Purl's cd, is directing this!

[TamiDamiano] we've worked together a lot, Ron and I

[TamiDamiano] Plus, I'm doing "Crazy for You" at Musical Theatre West in Long Beach

[RobertArmin] Great!

[TamiDamiano] sorry my typing is horrible

[RobertArmin] We'll fix it in the transcript.

[RobertArmin] No one will know

[TamiDamiano] thanks! David Engel is in it, too...he and I have done almost 10 shows together

[TamiDamiano] he's a doll

[RobertArmin] Unless, of course, I leave this comment in.

[TamiDamiano] he won an Ovation award for "Crazy for You' last year

[TamiDamiano] Oh no...everyone will know what a horrible typist I am

[RobertArmin] Crazy for You is a terrific show for you. I have several buddies who have played that role - Karen Ziemba and Christine Negherbon.

[TamiDamiano] wow, Karen Ziemba!

[RobertArmin] You're actually a great typist compared to many.

[TamiDamiano] I used to type 60/min

[RobertArmin] Karen needs two !! or three !!!

[RobertArmin] She's doing Three Penny Opera with Betty Buckley this summer.

[TamiDamiano] Really? wow

[RobertArmin] Hope I can't get tickets.

[TamiDamiano] hope you can't??

[RobertArmin] What!

[TamiDamiano] that's what you said

[RobertArmin] You're RIGHT!

[TamiDamiano] HEE HEE

[RobertArmin] Talk about Freudian slips

[TamiDamiano] LOL!!!

[RobertArmin] What does that mean, I wonder?

[RobertArmin] Hmmm..

[TamiDamiano] I can only guess

[RobertArmin] I must think about that.

[TamiDamiano] yes, do!!

[RobertArmin] Well, anyway, Tami Damiano, I must thank you profusely for joining me this evening.

[RobertArmin] So thank you -- profusely.

[TamiDamiano] I had a blast! Thanks so much!!!

[RobertArmin] Well, you may be on the "left" coast (not the wrong one), but I'm your newest biggest fan.

[RobertArmin] When is the album coming out?

[TamiDamiano] That's great! I look forward to seeing you again!

[TamiDamiano] Hopefully the album comes out before Christmas

[TamiDamiano] keep fingers crossed!

[RobertArmin] Well, I'll watch for it. And if you get out to New York, Kris and I would love to have dinner with you.

[TamiDamiano] Oh yeah...David Burnham is singing a duet with me

[TamiDamiano] I would LOVE that...I miss my favorite place, Pietrasanta

[RobertArmin] I just ate there about two weeks ago!

[TamiDamiano] I’M SO JEALOUS!!!

[RobertArmin] We have sooooo much in common.

[TamiDamiano] Their pappardelle is to die for

[RobertArmin] 1wally says it's his favorite, too!

[TamiDamiano] so many fans!

[RobertArmin] Oh, I just forgot. I got an email from someone with a question.

[TamiDamiano] oh, okay!

[RobertArmin] So let me throw it in as the last one.

[TamiDamiano] sure

[RobertArmin] We're looking forward to seeing you perform on Sept. 27 (along with "Les Miz's" Michael Maguire) in Fullerton, CA. You last performed there for us in "Grand Night for Singing." Could you tell us some of the repertoire you'll be singing?

[TamiDamiano] I'll be singing a lot from the CD I'm recording in August

[RobertArmin] That's from Wallace Farrelly

[TamiDamiano] things like "But the World Goes Round' and "When Somebody Loved Me " from Toy Story 2

[TamiDamiano] OK

[RobertArmin] Well, break a leg and all that theatre stuff.

[TamiDamiano] Thanks!

[RobertArmin] Thanks again for joining me tonight. Next week, my guest will be multiple Tony Award winning playwright Terrence McNally.

[TamiDamiano] This was fun, Robert! Thank you!

[RobertArmin] Good night. And keep in touch!

[TamiDamiano] I sure will!

[TamiDamiano] Good night!
