RobertArmin> Good evening and welcome to the Fynsworth Alley chat room. RobertArmin> Tonight, I'm turning off the moderation feature, so everyone is free to participate. RobertArmin> If you have any questions to start things off, let me know. RobertArmin> We can talk about upcoming releases on Fynsworth -- RobertArmin> or the current Broadway scene -- or whatever,. [dante] has anybody seen "NINE" with antonio banderas?? RobertArmin> Has it started previews already? [dante] yes it is in previews [dante] would love to get to nyc to see it RobertArmin> Unfortunately, or fortunately, my wife and I attend only when the Tony voters are invited -- RobertArmin> so we generally have to wait until after the official opening. [robricant] Did the Tony voters get to Urban Cowboy? [dante] have you seen urban cowboy? RobertArmin> Because Kristine is a Tony voter, we try not to listen to too much advance word on shows. RobertArmin> No, we haven't seen Urban Cowboy yet. But part of the reason for keeping it going, I think, is to make sure we do. [robricant] Has there been a reprieve? It didn't close on Saturday? RobertArmin> The last Broadway show to close without inviting Tony voters was Macbeth with Kelsey Grammer. RobertArmin> Yes, I hear they are running at least another two weeks. [dante] thank you to Fynsworth for releasing the best little whorehouse in texas cd with ann-margret RobertArmin> Yes, I was always a big fan of Ann-Margret. [dante] i saw it three times she is a wonder RobertArmin> In fact, I was the person who talked RCA into re-releasing some of her recordings RobertArmin> My name is even in the "thank yous" [robricant] I saw it her first week and she was very shaky ... I knew she could eventually do it though... [dante] i hope she does more theatre [dante] i saw frankie avalon in grease a couple of weeks ago small part, but he was very good RobertArmin> A friend of mine, Christine Negherbon, was on the tour with Ann-Margret and became very close friends RobertArmin> They talk about football on the phone quite frequently! RobertArmin> Did Avalon play Teen Angel? [dante] yes he does. he does a mini concert following the show RobertArmin> I remember seeing Eartha Kitt in Tumbuktu. She insisted on doing her club act afterwards, too. Even though she wasn't the star. RobertArmin> The audience thought she would be singing just one song, but she went on for about a half hour! [dante] do you know why oklahoma with patrick wilson was never recorded?? RobertArmin> I don't know about Oklahoma, but it received such mixed reviews -- and the London version HAD been recorded -- I assume that no one thought it financially viable. [robricant] This is my first time here ... I showed up specifically to plead for an Elegies CD. RobertArmin> Recording cast albums is, unfortunately, VERY expensive. [dante] what shows are being recorded by fynsworth in the future? RobertArmin> I wouldn't be at all surprised if Elegies does get recorded. Though I don't know on which label. RobertArmin> Although I run this chat room, I am not officially an employee of Fynsworth -- RobertArmin> so I don't generally know what's being planned [dante] robert, what is your all time favorite musical?????????? RobertArmin> My all-time favorite show would have to be the original 1971 Follies. RobertArmin> I saw it five times in NYC RobertArmin> and twice in Los Angeles. [robricant] Bravo! I saw it 7 times! LOL [dante] alexis smith was terrific RobertArmin> It's has never been equaled, in my opinion. RobertArmin> I have avoided all revivals (except the Roundabout) because I don't want to see it messed up. RobertArmin> Unfortunately, the Roundabout did mess it up! [dante] i saw the one with blythe danner wasnt impressed RobertArmin> Although the material was closer to the original than many revivals. [robricant] Why do British opera directors get hired to direct Broadway musicals on Broadway? [dante] lol RobertArmin> Yes, that was the Roundabout version. RobertArmin> Because they don't know about me. [robricant] Or me. [dante] my favorite musical is blood brothers [dante] love that show RobertArmin> I like Blood Brothers -- saw it in London and twice in New York. RobertArmin> But it's not high on my list of favorites. [robricant] Robert, you and I need to co-direct Follies at the Met someday. [dante] i thought petula clark was brilliant RobertArmin> robicant -- sounds good to me RobertArmin> I like Petula Clark a lot. And David Cassidy was okay, too. RobertArmin> But I saw the original cast in London -- and they were pretty darn good. [dante] i would have loved to see petula do sunset blvd. i saw betty buckley RobertArmin> I don't listen to it very often, but I have three cast albums of Blood Brothers. RobertArmin> Yes, I saw Buckley, too. [dante] i have the same amount [dante] name the version and i have it RobertArmin> At the intermission I went into the lobby and bought her four song CD. [robricant] See ... 3 Bloodbrothers and no Love Life ... something's wrong here! RobertArmin> I have NEVER listened to either of the complete recordings. RobertArmin> I made my own recording of Love Life from various old recordings [dante] robricant what is your favorite musical?? RobertArmin> I'm still waiting a proper version [robricant] Robert, so did I, this is scary, I think you and I are the same person. RobertArmin> Well, just call me robiCAN [robricant] LOL! I agree that the 1971 Follies is the greatest thing I've seen on stage ... but on paper I also have a great fondness for King and I [dante] good choice RobertArmin> Carousel is my favorite R&H show, but King and I would probably be second. RobertArmin> Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the last King and I with Donna Murphy. [robricant] I love Carousel, but something about it troubles me... [dante] i have only seen the king and i with hayley mills [robricant] I wish Mills had done it at some point in NYC. RobertArmin> Oklahoma is never as good as it should be. [robricant] You mean the material? Or no production is? RobertArmin> I did see Hayley Mills in a play (can't remember the title). She was, of course, a childhood favorite. [dante] i wish someone would do a revival of applause love that show [robricant] [shudder] RobertArmin> I saw the revival with Stefanie Powers. Not quite ready for Broadway. [dante] i saw it with alexis smith [dante] on tour RobertArmin> But Strouse gets many calls about it. Hopefully, the right star will come along. Strouse's choice is Barbra Streisand... but don't hold your breath. [robricant] Who was Eve in that? Someone interesting...? [robricant] In the Smith. [robricant] Or am I thinking that Pia Zadora was Bonnie? RobertArmin> I would love to have seen Pia do Applause! RobertArmin> As Bonnie. [dante] pia was in it [dante] i cant remember who eve was [dante] it was in warren, ohio kenley players [robricant] Who did Penny Fuller replace out of town? [robricant] I think that's who did it with Smith RobertArmin> We in New York tend to forget how many interesting productions of shows are done OUTSIDE of NYC. [dante] i saw alot of interesting actors in interesting parts growing up and attending the kenley players productions [dante] eva gabor in a little night music for example [robricant] Wow. Great. RobertArmin> Diane McAfee created the role of Eve but was fired out of town. [dante] my goodness, that is who played eve in warren, ohio RobertArmin> I grew up in L.A., so I saw the National Tours -- plus theatre in the round productions at the Valley Music Theatre. [dante] so i guess she got her chance RobertArmin> At least she didn't have to perform nude... [robricant] OK, so i wasn't crazy... RobertArmin> which I'm told she did at the first performance in Baltimore. [going2NYC] i was wondering if the online chat with Alice Ripley will be posted here in the archived chats RobertArmin> The bit was immediately cut. [robricant] you mean, in the Act 2 seduction scene? RobertArmin> Fynsworth is a bit behind putting up the archives. But you can read ALL of them at robertarmin.com [robricant] I remember Penny Fuller slipping out of her dress singing a reprise of Best Night of My Life...! [going2NYC] awesome! thanks! RobertArmin> I usually post the transcripts within 24 hours. RobertArmin> hello, going2NYC -- any questions? [going2NYC] i'm leaving in a few to fly to NYC from California, gonna see a bunch of shows RobertArmin> Oops, I didn't realize the Ripley question was from you. [going2NYC] lol RobertArmin> Good luck in seeing Urban Cowboy [dante] does anyone remember seeing lucie arnaz in "seesaw" i thought she was terrific RobertArmin> Cowboy RobertArmin> Seesaw with Lucie is one of my most cherished theatre memories! RobertArmin> One of the top 10 in my book [going2NYC] Urban cowboy got bad reviews RobertArmin> I'm sure for good reason! [dante] she has a real stage presence [going2NYC] is it that bad? [robricant] now now Tony voter! [dante] would have loved to see her in the witches of eastwick RobertArmin> I just saw Michelle Lee the other night sing several songs from Seesaw. She was terrific, too. [robricant] I saw Patti Karr, as did many people who saw the original RobertArmin> robicant, you're right, my bad! [robricant] I know you'll keep an open mind. ;-) RobertArmin> I AM looking forward to seeing Sally Mayes. [going2NYC] i'm just wondering if i'm missing out by not seeing it RobertArmin> She's always terrific. RobertArmin> Urban Cowboy is STILL playing [going2NYC] i guess i'll just have to see [robricant] S.M. has always seemed a little hard to me. [going2NYC] Gypsy starts tonight yes? RobertArmin> It's really surprising to see how badly once great shows look many years into their run... RobertArmin> We saw Phantom of the Opera a few days ago and it doesn't compare to the original production. RobertArmin> Yes, Gypsy starts previews tonight! [robricant] Doesn't it depend on how recently someone's been by to spruce it up? [going2NYC] I got a ticket for tomorrow night RobertArmin> Looking forward to seeing Bernadette. I've loved her work for thirty years! [robricant] Where are you sitting, Going? [going2NYC] so far I have tix to Gypsy, Hairspray, and Nine, i gotta find more though [going2NYC] i'm a theatre student and this is my annual treat [robricant] Someone recently told me their favorite Mama Rose was Ann Southern [going2NYC] and inspiration [dante] does anyone know who will be in the new touring company of chicago?? RobertArmin> I recommend Take Me Out -- very well acted. [going2NYC] oh yeah i want to see that too RobertArmin> Was bored with the nudity, however. RobertArmin> It distracted from the play [going2NYC] too much? [dante] never too much nudity [going2NYC] lol RobertArmin> WAYYYY to much. [robricant] Did it bug you how articulate these ball players were? RobertArmin> No, only some were articulate. Others were jerks. [going2NYC] okay, don't give it away [going2NYC] what about Lifex3 RobertArmin> But it was one play that had something interesting to say. RobertArmin> We're going to Lifex3 in about a week. RobertArmin> My wife schedules these things. [robricant] Lifex3, directed by the man who did Follies at Roundabout...! RobertArmin> Yup. [robricant] I hold grudges. [going2NYC] alumni from my school is in it RobertArmin> (ll) RobertArmin> that should have read (lol) [going2NYC] haha RobertArmin> Or I could have meant laughing loudly [robricant] lol, i was wondering! RobertArmin> I make up my own expressions! [robricant] I was thinking ... oh, his SON directed it? [dante] does anyone know who will be in the new touring company of chicago?? RobertArmin> alumni from which school? RobertArmin> Not sure about Chicago... it changes all the time. [going2NYC] California State University Fullerton RobertArmin> The Weisslers use it as a Broadway training ground RobertArmin> People come and go so quickly -- (oh, an Oz reference) [going2NYC] Linda Emond, i think it is RobertArmin> I don't think I've seen her yet, though the name sounds familiar. [going2NYC] i think she was in 1776 too [robricant] she's in lifex3 [going2NYC] and Arturo Ui [dl] what shows do you want to see get recorded/reissued RobertArmin> The one show I most want to see reissued is THE MAD SHOW. RobertArmin> A great cast album [broadwaytonyj] Regina and By Jupiter RobertArmin> With Sondheim and Rodgers' The Boy From... RobertArmin> Both of those are also on my list. RobertArmin> I have transferred all three to CD from my lp collection. [going2NYC] Golden Boy was never reissued RobertArmin> Regina is wonderful. RobertArmin> Golden Boy was on CD twice. [broadwaytonyj] Why was James Joyce's The Dead never recorded? RobertArmin> First at Bay City and then on Angel. [going2NYC] well i don't know nuthin, i can't find it anywhere RobertArmin> I wish I knew. I loved The Dead. Saw it three times. [going2NYC] guess i'll have to look harder [robricant] check on eBay, it's there a lot RobertArmin> Try eBay. There were plenty of copies out there. [going2NYC] cool [dl] what's Regina RobertArmin> robicant -- you ARE me! [robricant] !!! RobertArmin> Regina is an opera by Marc Blitzstein based on The Little Foxes. RobertArmin> New York City Opera recorded it. [going2NYC] was Carrie ever recorded? RobertArmin> Not a musical, definitely an opera. [robricant] the Regina recording you're talking about is the Columbia one from ... 1960? [dl] Who was in the cast? RobertArmin> Carrie has not been officially recorded. [going2NYC] all i ever heard was Alice and Emily do Unsuspecting Hearts [dl] I heard rumors of a studio recording RobertArmin> Regina starred Brenda Lewis, Carol Brice and Joshua Hecht [dl] Sounds interesting! [robricant] Is that the original cast? or the NYCO cast? [going2NYC] brb RobertArmin> There may be a demo recording, but I haven't heard it yet (Carrie). RobertArmin> Regina is the NYCO cast. RobertArmin> The RCA recording of By Jupiter is quite good -- although with a reduced orchestra. [dl] Is Amour really being recorded? I'd like to hear it. [broadwaytonyj] Will RCA eventually let other labels release recordings like BY JUPITER? RobertArmin> Don't know about Amour. Hope it gets recorded -- it's my favorite new musical this year. Fortunately, a friend gave me a live recording! RobertArmin> I think By Jupiter should be no problem at this time. RobertArmin> In the past they were very reluctant. RobertArmin> Billy Rosenfield once told me it was RCA's plan to keep others from reissuing things JUST IN CASE they ever decided to do it. [broadwaytonyj] Do you think DRG will start releasing the RCA recordings? RobertArmin> But they have pretty well given up on cast albums for the time being! [dl] Well Jamaica and Redhead were reissued on other labels. RobertArmin> Jamaica and Redhead were released on Fynsworth! RobertArmin> So, let's hope they get around to By Jupiter soon. RobertArmin> DRG seems to be focusing on Columbia (Sony) at the moment. [dl] I'd like to see Brigadoon with Shirley Jones and Susan Johnson. [robricant] YES! RobertArmin> Love that Brigadoon! RobertArmin> Just transferred that over, too. [broadwaytonyj] How about SIMPLY HEAVENLY? RobertArmin> That and the Brent Barrett-Rebecca Luker are the two best Brigadoons. [dl] I've never heard it but hear its wonderful! RobertArmin> Simply Heavenly -- just did that, too. A wonderful score. [dl] Wasn't that just revived in London? [Horonho] What about "Woman of the Year"? CD seems to be out of print. Been trying desperately to get a copy RobertArmin> If you haven't heard Juno, buy it at once. It is a lost treasure! [broadwaytonyj] Will DRG release REGINA? RobertArmin> I think Regina may be reissued, but not sure which label. I read something about it. [going2NYC] i'm back RobertArmin> Welcome back! [going2NYC] thanks [robricant] Who owns the Project 3 stuff now? I'm thinking of Cry for Us All.... RobertArmin> Woman of the Year is VERY hard to find. Even I let it get past me. I had to borrow a friend’s. RobertArmin> Of course, I have the original LP. [broadwaytonyj] JUNO is incredible. I wish ENCORES would present it RobertArmin> Cry For Us All -- some good material. Project 3 released Minnie's Boys many years ago, so maybe they will do it themselves! [dl] I wish Encores would do Golden Apple! [going2NYC] oh, maybe you can enlighten me on this: is it harder to get student rush tix now because of everyone trying to get tix they couldn't get during the strike? RobertArmin> I wish Encores would stop doing things that are not "lost" -- do we really need New Moon? RobertArmin> Not hard at all. Shows are dying! [robricant] I wonder whether a score as long as Golden Apple could ever be rehearsed in the short time frame Encores has. RobertArmin> Phantom wasn't even half full when we went. [robricant] Did you see that New Moon, Robert? [dl] Footlight has Woman Of The Year from time to time in the rare section RobertArmin> No, I rarely get to see Encores anymore because I refuse to sit in the Balcony! [robricant] It was really beautifully done. RobertArmin> I will try to pull some strings to see No Strings -- pun intended. [robricant] I felt like I had seen the show for real. [going2NYC] i see, i'm gonna get the rest of my tix when I get there RobertArmin> Marc Kudisch is a friend, so I want to see that. [dl] Is Vanessa out of No Strings! RobertArmin> Don't know. RobertArmin> There are many other people who could do it -- Pamela Isaacs for one! [going2NYC] what would be the best musical to make into a movie next? RobertArmin> But no one's busting down her door to offer it, RobertArmin> too bad. RobertArmin> She's an exceptional talent. [going2NYC] i think Ragtime might be a good choice RobertArmin> I'd like to see Promises, Promises... RobertArmin> A real sixites piece of nostalgia. [broadwaytonyj] DREAMGIRLS could make a great movie RobertArmin> that's sixties [robricant] At least Ragtime would not have to compete with a good prior movie. [dl] Stephanie Pope might be good in No Strings too! RobertArmin> Yes, Dreamgirls would probably do well, though it is not a favorite of mine. RobertArmin> Of course, I'd love to make a TV movie of the musical What Makes Sammy Run? before Ben Stiller gets around to his non-musical version!!!! [going2NYC] there is talk of Guys and Dolls, Bye Bye Birdie....all shows that have already been made into movies RobertArmin> With me directing, of course. [robricant] Dueling Sammys! Let's do it! LOL! RobertArmin> We don't need another Guys and Dolls or Bye Bye Birdie RobertArmin> Unless they FINALLY get them right. [dl] Totally agree! [robricant] we-e-e-e-ll, we could use a decent Bye Bye Birdie someday.... RobertArmin> Like I said... [robricant] that was first Bway show, so I am sentimental about it [robricant] (I was a child) RobertArmin> My wife did the show with Tommy Tune -- couldn't ever get them to look at her for the movie -- they filmed it in Canada! RobertArmin> a lull [robricant] Robert, I'm sorry, I should know who your wife is... RobertArmin> gershwin - any questions? RobertArmin> Don't be sorry -- her name is Kristine Nevins. She played the Mayor's Wife [going2NYC] do you think a show like Ragtime would work? Maybe they just want to make movies out of musical comedies RobertArmin> That's how we got to know Susan Egan, Marc Kudisch, Steve Zahn and many other great people. RobertArmin> I think Ragtime is too theatrical for the movies. It would have to be changed too much! RobertArmin> I wish A Chorus Line could be preserved as is. [going2NYC] yeah, I think that is why Evita didn't work for me RobertArmin> I hope no one makes a film out of Follies until I can do it myself. I have some very strong ideas of how to do it. [broadwaytonyj] Blood Brothers would make a good movie RobertArmin> Which I WON"T share with you. heh heh heh [going2NYC] 42nd Street maybe RobertArmin> Blood Brothers might be interesting. [robricant] Robert, would you trust Bill Condon to write & direct a Follies movie? RobertArmin> 42nd Street has been DONE. [going2NYC] oh yes the original RobertArmin> I don't know him as a director, but he did a good job with Chicago's script. RobertArmin> I do hate all the fast edits though. [robricant] he directed Gods and Monsters RobertArmin> I was watching Hello, Dolly! this afternoon. Michael Kidd and Gene Kelly let us watch the dancers, which I love. RobertArmin> Well, then yes, he is a good director. RobertArmin> I liked that film a lot. [robricant] .....but you won't relinquish Follies to him! LOL! RobertArmin> I don't think they will wait until I am famous enough -- unfortunately! [going2NYC] trying to think what else RobertArmin> I just don't want anyone to mess it up. [going2NYC] it's reversed now, all the musicals r movies first RobertArmin> My dream project was a film about the opening of A Cradle Will Rock... then Tim Robbins used it as the basis of a very poor movie. [going2NYC] There was talk of Into the Woods into a movie [dl] who would you cast in a film of Follies? RobertArmin> I usually love Tim's work... but that was a major disappointment. [broadwaytonyj] Glenn Close as Phyllis RobertArmin> Harry Groener as Buddy, I think. [going2NYC] i would only want to see Bernadette as the witch RobertArmin> Into the Wood is problematic. RobertArmin> It is a fairytale, but for adults. RobertArmin> Hard to find the right tone. RobertArmin> But it certainly could be done. [going2NYC] that's true, the kids wouldn't understand it [robricant] Maybe Terry Gilliam could do it [going2NYC] but they'd flock to it RobertArmin> Gilliam would be an interesting choice. RobertArmin> His brother was an L.A. cop when I lived there! RobertArmin> Nice guy. RobertArmin> Never met Terry, though. RobertArmin> James Naughton might be good as Ben, but there are others, too. [going2NYC] hmm can't think of any [robricant] I think the only musicals that would be viable as movies right now are hard, nasty things like Chicago ... [going2NYC] yeah...isn't Phantom of the Opera close to filming? RobertArmin> Phantom is back in Lloyd-Webber's control, so it may actually happen. RobertArmin> actually [going2NYC] and wasn't Rob Marshall actually thinking of Rent before Chicago? RobertArmin> Lloyd-Webber has not had a hit in New York SINCE Phantom. Amazing to realize that. RobertArmin> Yes, it was at a meeting about Rent that he mentioned Chicago. RobertArmin> I don't think Rent would make a good movie, though. [going2NYC] it's hard to see RobertArmin> I'm glad that TV is filming more traditional musicals, but I wish they would do a better job. And do shows that HAVEN'T already been filmed. [robricant] How do you pitch a musical that hasn't already been a movie to a TV executive? RobertArmin> I would like to see a few shows -- like Man of La Mancha -- filmed in their stage versions. But with film cameras instead of video. [going2NYC] Assassins might be a bold film RobertArmin> Don't know the answer to that. [robricant] With the sound recorded live? RobertArmin> Assassins would NEVER get passed a movie executive! RobertArmin> Live sound is usually best. RobertArmin> Unless you're talking about At Long Last Love!!!!! [robricant] That seems to be a big problem with movie musicals ... how phony the music seems RobertArmin> The last live movie musical. [going2NYC] maybe as an independent, or some maverick producer [going2NYC] at this time, no it wouldn't RobertArmin> The problem is that the musical is recorded first, long before the actors have fully explored their characters. RobertArmin> And before the dances have been worked out. [robricant] Yeah I was wondering that too, today, watching Hello Dolly RobertArmin> The scenes and dances often don't fit the pre-recorded tracks. RobertArmin> The best thing about Dolly is Louis Armstrong... and Walter Matthau who was perfect for his role. RobertArmin> Streisand throws the whole thing off-kilter. [robricant] They were the only spontaneous things in it RobertArmin> Streisand was so "controlled" it was ridiculous. [robricant] That's the problem ... how odes spontaneity survive? RobertArmin> She's terrific when she cuts loose, but she rarely does on film. [robricant] *does [going2NYC] i'm not a barbra fan [robricant] You put a lot of work into a stage musical, but when it's performed, it always there, live ... but on film...! RobertArmin> Any other thoughts on albums that should be reissued? [dl] Children Of Eden - London Cast [robricant] I am gald to see New Faces! now how about 1968? [robricant] *glad RobertArmin> 1968 is Warner Bros. They will have to do that themselves, I think. It's not all that good though. [going2NYC] does a recording exist of the full score of Side Show RobertArmin> I wish 1956 and 1952 were together, because 1956 may not make it on its own. RobertArmin> Full score? I doubt it. [robricant] I'd like to see someone record the full score of Fanny RobertArmin> Maybe Encores will do it some day. [going2NYC] alright, i'm off to get on my plane [robricant] but no one is recording those anymore [robricant] enjoy your trip! RobertArmin> They need to do a Harold Rome show. Of course, I'd like to direct Gone with the Wind for them. I was in the L.A. production. [going2NYC] nice chattin with u guys RobertArmin> You're off to NYC now? [going2NYC] thanks [going2NYC] yes in few hours [robricant] well say hello when you get here, lol! RobertArmin> Well, write when you get here. I live in the theatre district. [going2NYC] will u be on here? RobertArmin> We'll meet at Barrymore's. [going2NYC] or on the website? where is barrymore's? RobertArmin> go to robertarmin.com and email me from there. RobertArmin> Barrymore's is on 45th between 8th and 9th Avenues. [going2NYC] cool, yeah i'll be arriving tomorrow morning RobertArmin> Send me an email and let me know your real name! RobertArmin> Have a good trip. [going2NYC] thanks! take care! RobertArmin> Well, this was a fun chat -- my first "OPEN" one. RobertArmin> Glad you all could join me. [robricant] Robert you were in Scarlett with Lesley Ann Warren? Did people laugh at it? [going2NYC] fun fun RobertArmin> No, Leslie was wonderful. RobertArmin> I think she's a highly underrated performer. [dl] thank you! [robricant] I saw her do Polly in Threepenny just before that RobertArmin> The show had more than a few problems, but the score seems better after so many years of bad scores. [robricant] yes, terrific ... i just wonder if GWTW is too familiar for people to accept it as a musical RobertArmin> I think a concert would be easier, because you wouldn't have to worry about the realism of the sets. RobertArmin> Horton Foote did so many versions of the script, though, it would be hard to choose the best one for a concert. [robricant] I tried to convince someone to do a concert of it as a benefit years ago ... but it didn't fly. [robricant] They wanted stars and stars wouldn't learn the score for a benefit. RobertArmin> I made a live recording of the orchestra rehearsal. It really is a beautiful score with terrific arrangements. [broadwaytonyj] Who owns the rights to the London cast recording? RobertArmin> But the score couldn't possible live up to people's expectations, unfortunately. [robricant] OK, the London cast album ... that's a reissue i'd like to see RobertArmin> EMI, I believe. [robricant] Isn't that Angel now? [dl] Who's on that recording? RobertArmin> The London Cast album is quite different from the L.A. production. [robricant] June Ritchie, Harve Presnell RobertArmin> Yes, I believe so. RobertArmin> There are SOOOO many variations of songs and lyrics. Harold Rome recorded the songs and they're different from any of the other versions. RobertArmin> It would be fun piecing it all together for a concert. Maybe someday. [robricant] I'll do it with you! RobertArmin> Well, thank you for joining me tonight. I'm going to end this here. Next week, my guest may be Ron Raines if his schedule permits. [robricant] Thanks, Robert, this was great. First time I've been here, normally don't do chat. RobertArmin> Tony Walton is set for the week after. RobertArmin> Lots of other interesting people coming up. RobertArmin> Have a good night. [robricant] OK, goodnight. I'm going to have to e-mail you myself ... since we're the same guy, lol! [robricant] Good night! |
