[Sandy Duncan assigned her husband, Don Correia, the task of typing her comments for the following chat, live from their Manhattan home, and Don tosses in a few of his own comments now and then. For clarity, a few typos have been quietly eliminated and some answers have been moved closer to their corresponding questions.] [RobertArmin] Good evening and welcome to the Fynsworth Alley chat room. [RobertArmin] I am especially pleased to welcome one of my all-time favorite musical theatre performers -- Ms. Sandy Duncan. [RobertArmin] Welcome Sandy! [SandyDuncan] Thank you Robert [RobertArmin] As you may remember, I was editor of TV World Magazine at the time you were doing Peter Pan... [RobertArmin] and I was able to write a story about you for that magazine. [SandyDuncan] Oh sooooo many years ago! [RobertArmin] You had just started "going" with Don at the time. [RobertArmin] And you have now been together -- what -- 24 years? [SandyDuncan] Legally for 23 [RobertArmin] You were both teenagers at the time, of course. [SandyDuncan] That’s right!! [RobertArmin] One of our readers, "Stew" asks if there is an official Sandy Duncan website? [SandyDuncan] You have to know how to type to have an official web site. [RobertArmin] Yes, and we can clue people in to the fact that Don is actually doing the typing... [SandyDuncan] I don't even like the telephone [RobertArmin] The family that types together... [SandyDuncan] Don't ever believe it! [RobertArmin] You fell in love with the theatre very early... [RobertArmin] When did you know you wanted to be an actress? [SandyDuncan] Started dancing when I was 5, first professional job at 12 and doing it ever since. [SandyDuncan] Luckily never had to take another job to support myself. As you can see, secretary would never have worked [RobertArmin] Back in the "politically incorrect" days, you were in a production of the King and I? [RobertArmin] At Dallas Summer Musicals. [SandyDuncan] Yes, I wore Texas dirt to darken my skin and drew in Asian eyes. [SandyDuncan] Fooling no one! [RobertArmin] What other early roles did you play? [SandyDuncan] Zaneeta in Music Man, Louise in Carousel [SandyDuncan] Dainty June in Gypsy.....blah blah [RobertArmin] Which was your first New York role? [SandyDuncan] First New York role was...... [SandyDuncan] Zaneeta in Music Man....had to think about it. [SandyDuncan] First Broadway show was Canterbury Tales [RobertArmin] For which, fortunately, there is a cast album. [SandyDuncan] That’s right!! [RobertArmin] And The Boy Friend! Which is a great stereo recording of the show... [RobertArmin] but not yet available on CD. [RobertArmin] But you are terrific on it, if I may say. [SandyDuncan] I considered it unfortunate since I wasn't really a singer at that point [RobertArmin] fredric47 asks: I saw you in Canterbury Tales. What was that experience like with all those British show folk--George Rose, Hermione Baddeley, and Martyn Green? [SandyDuncan] First time I ever saw anyone eat Tripe [SandyDuncan] And hopefully the last!! [SandyDuncan] But I loved working with them, especially George Rose who later became Captain Hook [SandyDuncan] in my production of Peter Pan [RobertArmin] Were you a bit intimidated having to do a British accent? [SandyDuncan] No. Texans and Southerners do English very well. [SandyDuncan] And vice versa [SandyDuncan] Think of Vivian Leigh [RobertArmin] Yes, as Jessica Tandy and Vivian Leigh can attest to... [RobertArmin] Great minds think alike! [SandyDuncan] That’s right!! [RobertArmin] jmoher writes: Were you not in a play at the American Place Theatre as well in 1967? I was a student then and saw quite a bit of theatre [SandyDuncan] Ceremony of Innocence [SandyDuncan] Got stabbed and everything [SandyDuncan] Wynn Handman was my teacher as well as running American Place Theater [RobertArmin] What was the two character play you did briefly on Broadway? [SandyDuncan] Love is a time of day by John Patrick [RobertArmin] I almost did that in a dinner theatre -- but just almost. [RobertArmin] Scott writes: Hi Sandy, and Don-- Greetings from just outside Taylorville, Illinois. [SandyDuncan] I started it in a little mall theater in Paramus, New Jersey opposite THE Michael Douglas [SandyDuncan] Hi to you Scott [RobertArmin] Oh, that's right. I forgot about Michael Douglas [RobertArmin] But he didn't make it to Broadway! [RobertArmin] That was a fun script -- the kind you never see on Broadway anymore. [SandyDuncan] Gee, wonder if I could have been in the movie of Chicago instead of Catherine Z if I played it right? [SandyDuncan] No, Tom Liggon did it on Broadway [SandyDuncan] He was originally in..... Your Own Thing [RobertArmin] You really WERE fabulous in Chicago! [SandyDuncan] One of my most favorite roles [SandyDuncan] Especially working opposite my best friend Ruthie Henshall [RobertArmin] I remember seeing Bonnie Franklin in Your Own Thing in L.A. I think you were in San Francisco or somewhere else at the time. [SandyDuncan] Who just had a baby girl [SandyDuncan] Only did it in New York and Toronto [SandyDuncan] Ruthie's baby is named Lily [RobertArmin] Baby Girl! I was wondering. Hadn't heard the latest. Congrats to her. She's a sweetheart. [SandyDuncan] Yes she is. [RobertArmin] fredric47 asks: Why do you think "Canterbury Tales" never was successful on Broadway in both of its productions? [SandyDuncan] I find this process frustrating because you know how fast and much I like to talk!! [SandyDuncan] I didn't know about a second. [RobertArmin] I think an Off-Broadway production. [SandyDuncan] You never know how a critic will respond. Got a Tony Nomination out of it though. [RobertArmin] Stew is very anxious to ask if there is a recording of your Peter Pan? Unfortunately, I know the answer. [SandyDuncan] Noooooooooooooooooooooooo [SandyDuncan] Very very sad to me [SandyDuncan] Want to produce one?? [SandyDuncan] Dare you to try and get the rights [SandyDuncan] Kathy Rigby's husband has them [RobertArmin] Bruce Kimmel did record Marcia Kramer's song from your production, but why weren't you on that Peter Pan album? Were you asked? [SandyDuncan] I think the man hates me. [RobertArmin] I won't respond to that! [SandyDuncan] I've never been asked to do any of his recordings [RobertArmin] You did perform several of the Peter Pan songs on TV, though. [SandyDuncan] Yes. Omnibus, Tony Awards, Boston Pops..... [RobertArmin] Any of those on home video that you know of? [SandyDuncan] Just the copies we have. [RobertArmin] Somewhere in my closet I have old Beta tapes of most of those shows. [RobertArmin] Those are real "home" videos... [SandyDuncan] Us too. That’s what mine are on [SandyDuncan] Pathetic [SandyDuncan] We're dating ourselves [RobertArmin] Stew is so anxious, he writes: Sandy, I would be willing to donate to Lon Morris College if I could get a copy, however poor the quality, of you singing Never Never Land. [SandyDuncan] Donate to my children's college fund never mind Lon Morris [SandyDuncan] Have one in college and one going next year [RobertArmin] Scott asks: If you could record Peter Pan, who would you like to cast as your Captain Hook? [SandyDuncan] Let me think [SandyDuncan] Maybe Kevin Spacy? [RobertArmin] Really? [SandyDuncan] Maybe Chris Walken [RobertArmin] Walken would be interesting... [RobertArmin] Did you ever work with him? [SandyDuncan] Both would [SandyDuncan] Yes. Night of 100 stars, and a NYU seminar [RobertArmin] Scott says: Chris Walken would scare the children AND the adults. [SandyDuncan] You're probably right. Isn't that what he's suppose to do?? [RobertArmin] Yep. [SandyDuncan] Who would you all suggest? [SandyDuncan] Brought this thing to a stand still [RobertArmin] fredric47 suggests: Jonathan Pryce [SandyDuncan] Also a good idea Fredric47 [RobertArmin] Stew adds: Sandy, my wife works for ABC. If you want to have your beta tapes transferred to VHS, she can do it for free. [SandyDuncan] See, where are our new Broadway stars. [RobertArmin] He won't give up! [RobertArmin] Scott writes: Oh, gosh. I loved Christopher Hewitt so much... I'm stumped. Pryce would indeed be good. [SandyDuncan] Stew, we actually have had them transferred but just can't find them all in our basement. [RobertArmin] Maybe you should do an album of songs from ALL of your shows -- like Susan Egan did. [RobertArmin] Of course, it would have to be a two CD set!!!! [SandyDuncan] I can't think of anything I'd rather NOT do. I want new songs. [SandyDuncan] Don't we all! [RobertArmin] Other than Chicago -- which probably was your finest moment in the theatre (if I may say), what are your favorite roles? [SandyDuncan] Peter Pan of course [RobertArmin] That's true. You're like Fred Astaire in that regard -- never look back. [SandyDuncan] M'Lynn in Steel Magnolias [RobertArmin] In that case, what classic shows would you like to do? [RobertArmin] Others? [SandyDuncan] Classic....Agnes of God,... [SandyDuncan] Maybe the Goat [SandyDuncan] Little Foxes [SandyDuncan] Dark at the top of the stairs [RobertArmin] You would be great in those roles. [RobertArmin] I wish you had done The Goat after Sally Field. [RobertArmin] A great role. [SandyDuncan] Mr. Ziegfeld, Mr. Ziegfeld....Hello [RobertArmin] Many people don't know how good a dramatic actress you are. [SandyDuncan] I'd rather have done it before Sally Field [SandyDuncan] And I'm working on it. It takes time [RobertArmin] Of course! [RobertArmin] I was lucky enough to see the Mark Taper Forum production of Vanities. [RobertArmin] One of the best casts of all time!!!! [SandyDuncan] Loved working with Stockard and Lucy [SandyDuncan] Lucie....sorry [RobertArmin] And your performance made it clear that your dramatic talents were not being fully realized... [RobertArmin] fredric47 asks: Which film role are you most proud of doing? [RobertArmin] Or TV, for that matter. [SandyDuncan] I think my dramatic career is beginning to move in that direction as I grow older. [SandyDuncan] None. [RobertArmin] Not even Roots? [SandyDuncan] TV? [SandyDuncan] Roots, but that was a long time ago [RobertArmin] You're doing more and more dramatic guest appearances now [RobertArmin] Fortunately. [SandyDuncan] In theatrical things around the city. Plays and readings. You have to pay your dues I'm afraid [SandyDuncan] Doing "Wit and Wisdom" which is about the aging process [SandyDuncan] At the Arc Light Theater for a couple of weeks [RobertArmin] Is that a play or musical? [SandyDuncan] Play (selected readings from famous writers) [RobertArmin] Who is in it with you? [SandyDuncan] Tammy Grimes, Kitty Carlisle Hart, Rita Gam.... [RobertArmin] Wow! [SandyDuncan] Rosemary Harris [SandyDuncan] Joan copland [SandyDuncan] Copeland...sorry [RobertArmin] Stew asks: Where is the Arc Light Theater and when will you be doing Wit and Wisdom? [SandyDuncan] Arc Light Theater starts Wednesday the 5th and I'll be there through the 15th. Arc Light Theater is on West 71st Street. Cast is rotating. [RobertArmin] That's a very popular technique right now [RobertArmin] alternating casts [SandyDuncan] West 71st Street between Columbus and Broadway. [RobertArmin] It can get frustrating trying to see a particular actor [RobertArmin] I'll try to catch it right away! [SandyDuncan] Yes that’s true but producers do it to make money and get people to commit that might not [SandyDuncan] if it were a long run. [RobertArmin] fredric47 asks: If your theatrical career were just starting, would you have gone the dramatic route over playing the type of wholesome ingenue roles that you did when you originally started in the sixties? [SandyDuncan] I didn't start out doing ingenue. More of a character actress, which is what I still consider myself to be [RobertArmin] You once told me that doing the TV and Disney work was unsatisfying but it gave you the public recognition to do the theatre work. [SandyDuncan] Peter Pan is hardly an ingenue [RobertArmin] Do you still feel that way? [SandyDuncan] I don't want to do television or film but it seems almost a requirement these days to keep yourself visible [SandyDuncan] People feel that you've died or moved to the Ozarks if they don't see you on TV [RobertArmin] Is there a classic musical you might want to film for TV, now that movie musicals are coming back? [SandyDuncan] Like they’re doing now?.......... [SandyDuncan] Let me think [SandyDuncan] Not Music Man and not Gypsy..... [RobertArmin] Ha! [RobertArmin] Been there, done that. [SandyDuncan] Can't think of one. [SandyDuncan] I'm sure if I was asked I'd do one but I'm not pining to do any. [RobertArmin] Scott thinks you'd make an amazing Mame! [RobertArmin] Scott asks: Sandy, the first show I attended on Broadway was "My One and Only." With you and Don -- it was joyous. Any fun anecdotes? [SandyDuncan] I've been asked to do that actually and thank you Scott. This summer in fact. My schedule conflicted [SandyDuncan] Yes [SandyDuncan] One night Don said [SandyDuncan] In his first song... the dialogue leading into it [SandyDuncan] He is suppose to say.... [SandyDuncan] "I'm looking for someone with style and polish" [SandyDuncan] meanwhile I'm suppose to be looking stylish and glamorous on the half moon. [SandyDuncan] instead he says [SandyDuncan] "I'm looking for someone with piles and stolish. [RobertArmin] !!! [SandyDuncan] I nearly ate the moon. So did our conductor Jack Lee who howled the rest of the first act. [SandyDuncan] Something from Don [SandyDuncan] Sandy at the end of the show threw the bouquet into the audience. [SandyDuncan] Almost every night she would attempt to do so and end up throwing it up and over her head landing upstage [RobertArmin] Well a major league pitcher she'll never be... [SandyDuncan] No punch line, just Sandy having to go back upstage in her wedding gown to pick it up [RobertArmin] You and Don worked together for many years before you started "dating" didn't you. When did you first work together? Was it in Pinocchio? [SandyDuncan] No. 1971 in "Sandy Duncan in Disneyland". [RobertArmin] Ah, that's when I first met Sandy. [SandyDuncan] Many many specials thereafter [SandyDuncan] Really? [RobertArmin] I was visiting her manager Gus Schirmer at his home. [SandyDuncan] Gus, I really miss him [RobertArmin] And he had just negotiated Sandy's contract with Disney. [RobertArmin] I remember the figure -- but of course I will never repeat it! [SandyDuncan] Oh yes, the Cat From Outer Space and the Million Dollar Duck [SandyDuncan] I don't [SandyDuncan] Guess it wasn't much, I didn't retire [RobertArmin] You arrived while I was there. Silly me, I had such a crush... [RobertArmin] Great movies, those! [RobertArmin] (not) [RobertArmin] You must have been so frustrated with the roles they kept throwing at you. [SandyDuncan] After a while. I think everyone gets that way when they’re boxed into the same role [SandyDuncan] time after time [SandyDuncan] Part of the deal [RobertArmin] fredric47 wonders why Disney didn't offer you any musical roles? [SandyDuncan] They weren't doing them then. Missed the musical hey day of film [SandyDuncan] Actually Broadway when you come to think of it. [RobertArmin] I guess Leslie Warren got the last of the musical roles at the time [SandyDuncan] New material I mean [RobertArmin] fredric47 asks: Don, how did you like doing "Perfectly Frank" on Broadway? [SandyDuncan] Loved working with the cast. Still very good friends with David Ruprecht [SandyDuncan] Are you asking me about the show?? [RobertArmin] That was for Don -- the excellent typist! [RobertArmin] I'm curious, Don, did you do the performance outside the Morosco during the Save The Morosco rallies? Because I videotaped the entire performance. [SandyDuncan] I still remember the reviews. We got the boon of anonymity [SandyDuncan] We were at the old Helen Hayes across from Sandy at the Lunt [RobertArmin] It's in the same box with the Sandy Duncan as Peter Pan videos. [SandyDuncan] That’s probably right [RobertArmin] But did you do the outdoor concert version? [SandyDuncan] no [RobertArmin] Oh, well. [SandyDuncan] I'm unsure what that was. Don't remember being there [RobertArmin] They had readings and concert performances to help rally support for the theatres. [SandyDuncan] I do remember that [SandyDuncan] Hated to see any theater torn down [RobertArmin] I actually videotaped the whole "trespass" incident when everyone marched onto the site (where the Bijou had once been). [RobertArmin] Susan Sarandon and Richard Gere were in the same police van with me! [SandyDuncan] Yeah, god wouldn't we love to have those small theaters back again. [SandyDuncan] Ah memories [RobertArmin] Well, back to Sandy. How can people find out about these many concert appearances you make around the country? [SandyDuncan] Beats the hell out of me seeing that I don't have a web site [RobertArmin] I see that you're doing a concert on April 1 with the Dick Goodwin Orchestra. [RobertArmin] I "googled" you and found that. [SandyDuncan] Have to check in their local areas. We were in Staten Island 3 weeks ago. [SandyDuncan] Performing in Penn. in a couple of weeks. (Harrisburg, Uniontown and Easton). [RobertArmin] Well, we need to set you up with a web page. Scott has even offered to help. [SandyDuncan] Next to Columbia , South Carolina, then 2 weeks in Florida. [RobertArmin] I can give you a page at showmusic.com. You can just send me the info. [RobertArmin] Stew asks: When will you be performing in Easton? [SandyDuncan] I just don't think I'm a computer kind of gal [SandyDuncan] Give me a sec [SandyDuncan] March 22nd [SandyDuncan] in Easton [RobertArmin] alleyfan writes: And you were superwonderful in NYC in "The Grass Harp" [RobertArmin] I definitely agree with that. [SandyDuncan] Those kinds of evenings are very difficult to do [SandyDuncan] there is no rehearsal time [SandyDuncan] you have to fly by the seat of your pants [SandyDuncan] make choices and go with them [SandyDuncan] You have to work on pure instinct [RobertArmin] You were soooo funny when you found out that Peter Filichia, who was on the panel of "experts," was a drama critic. You thought he was going to review your performance? [SandyDuncan] But I really enjoyed investigating that character... and Alleyfan thank you. [RobertArmin] Scott adds: Who did "The Grass Harp?" We definitely need SandyDuncan.com!! [SandyDuncan] Still on Grass Harp, to have Kenward Elmslie around [RobertArmin] Kenward is my guest next week! [RobertArmin] We'll talk all about you! [RobertArmin] Your ears will be burning... [SandyDuncan] He is....give him my love and tell him "I wear his hand on a gold chain around my neck". [RobertArmin] azalea asks: What happened with the Easter Parade musical with Tommy Tune? [SandyDuncan] Who did it? The York Theater, one of their mufti series [SandyDuncan] Ask Tommy [RobertArmin] I will. I'm trying to get him to join me here! But he types even less than you! [SandyDuncan] That’s probably right. We're both throw backs from another era [RobertArmin] But I must add that Don is THE best typist we have ever had here. [SandyDuncan] Sandy says "Bull Shit" [SandyDuncan] But thank you Robert [RobertArmin] Can you say that here? [SandyDuncan] I don't know?? [RobertArmin] I guess you can! [SandyDuncan] We just did [RobertArmin] I sure won't cut it. [RobertArmin] Scott asks: Didn't Easter Parade actually perform in Australia? [SandyDuncan] Just don't report me....then again maybe that kind of publicity would be good for me [RobertArmin] I think so. [RobertArmin] It would change your image! [SandyDuncan] Yes we did for 5 performances. Received well and audiences loved it. [RobertArmin] I have to track down a "live" recording! [SandyDuncan] And we all know that is just an image [RobertArmin] Of course, you did that way back in Vanities! [RobertArmin] You had such a potty mouth in that when you got "drunk." [SandyDuncan] You mean cuss? [SandyDuncan] Oh yes you mean the big F word [RobertArmin] I think a lot of your fans were shocked! [SandyDuncan] Which is now an excuse for not writing well [RobertArmin] Yeah, but in Vanities -- it worked perfectly for your character. [SandyDuncan] and those who were not fans were relieved [RobertArmin] I think that you, Lucie and Stockard should do the play again for L.A. TheatreWorks and record it. [RobertArmin] Have you done anything for them yet? [SandyDuncan] We got together and read it for Manny Azenberg about 7 or 8 years ago and we all agreed [SandyDuncan] it didn't work for us anymore [SandyDuncan] But Jack Heifner claims [RobertArmin] Not even as a radio play? [SandyDuncan] he definitely wants to write a play for me. [RobertArmin] Good idea [SandyDuncan] Yeah that would be fun [SandyDuncan] Does Bruce Kimmel do that.... [RobertArmin] Yes, I think you could easily do it for L.A. TheatreWorks -- they do radio plays. [SandyDuncan] Call them. You can be my rep [RobertArmin] Fynsworth has produced two plays -- Copenhagen and Beyond Therapy. Hopefully more in the future. [RobertArmin] I'll do that! [SandyDuncan] As long as it doesn't involve computers [RobertArmin] You'll have to call Stockard and Lucie! [RobertArmin] Stew: Did we find out where in Easton Sandy is performing? I got knocked off the web by the ever competent Cablevision !!!! [SandyDuncan] They both live here, no problem. [SandyDuncan] Wait a sec [SandyDuncan] Sandy take over [SandyDuncan] hghfytgfdscggthyukjyjyhvvytghfgrfjikyisysvyt5' [RobertArmin] This will be interesting... [SandyDuncan] I'm back [RobertArmin] You beat me to it! [RobertArmin] azalea asks: What about Vagina Monologues? Have you done that yet? [SandyDuncan] We're at the State Theater in Easton [SandyDuncan] I was asked dozens and dozens of times [SandyDuncan] never worked out [RobertArmin] Too bad. I would have loved to hear your version of the "moans" monologue. [SandyDuncan] Me too [SandyDuncan] That was from Don [RobertArmin] I thought so... [RobertArmin] Kris knew that was Don's answer! [RobertArmin] You'll be glad she stopped me from my next response... [SandyDuncan] Which was.............. [SandyDuncan] ???? [RobertArmin] Kris says "Never mind." [SandyDuncan] Come on [SandyDuncan] Chicken [RobertArmin] Actually, I was just going to say, "I'll ask Don." [SandyDuncan] Tell Kris to "Never Mind" [RobertArmin] Rebecca Luker was very funny. When they asked her to do The Vagina Monologues she said okay, but she didn't want to do the moans. [RobertArmin] So, of course, they made her do them. [RobertArmin] Her husband, Danny, worked with her on it. [RobertArmin] She was terrific. [SandyDuncan] Don always thought they should write "The Scrotum Stories" [RobertArmin] Doh [RobertArmin] This conversation is deteriorating quickly... [SandyDuncan] Pick it back up! [RobertArmin] So, back to what's happening in your life. What other projects can we look forward to. [SandyDuncan] I'm working on a 2 character buddy musical for Ruthie Henshall and me [SandyDuncan] Our life but not! [RobertArmin] Wow!!! [SandyDuncan] I hope you're right [RobertArmin] Now that's a great idea. [SandyDuncan] You know how hard these things are [RobertArmin] The two of you would be terrific together. [RobertArmin] alleyfan writes: That sounds great. Tell us more about the musical with Ruthie [SandyDuncan] We think so!!!! It would be fun too. We love working together [SandyDuncan] Its kind of how we met, how the relationship developed, how things happened, didn't happen, could happen....life. [SandyDuncan] Only its not really Ruthie and me obviously [RobertArmin] Of course. [RobertArmin] So, if Fynsworth Alley wanted to do an album with you, what kind of songs would you want to include? [SandyDuncan] It will have dramatic components that are not us. [RobertArmin] Other than the cast album of the Sandy and Ruthie show, of course. [SandyDuncan] Country Western for my roots [RobertArmin] Really? [RobertArmin] That's a side we haven't heard much of. [SandyDuncan] Maybe some show music [SandyDuncan] Hopefully some original and comedy tunes [SandyDuncan] Lord...I've never thought about it. [RobertArmin] Maybe, you should put together a club act with Don and do a live album. [SandyDuncan] Ya know Robert, you are far more ambitious for me than I am for myself. [RobertArmin] I think so. [RobertArmin] I want you to record these things so I can listen to them! [SandyDuncan] Then put the deal together and give me a call. [RobertArmin] From your mouth... [SandyDuncan] I'm much better at showing up and doing the work [SandyDuncan] You heard it here! [RobertArmin] I will call you about Vanities, though. I think that would be a great idea. [SandyDuncan] That I can be counted on for. [SandyDuncan] Great! [RobertArmin] Let me know what Stockard and Lucie say. [SandyDuncan] OK, I'll give them a call. Fax me the facts! [RobertArmin] Couple last questions before we wrap it up. [RobertArmin] alleyfan asks: What charities are you involved with? [SandyDuncan] Broadway Cares [SandyDuncan] That’s the one I devote most if not all my extra time to [RobertArmin] Scott asks: Sandy, were you aware that there is "Sandy Duncan Drive" in Taylorville, Illinois? [SandyDuncan] They flew me there for the naming of the street. It was a big ta do [SandyDuncan] Like 1970 something [SandyDuncan] A friend of ours just drove through there and sent us a picture of him standing in front of the sign [RobertArmin] Scott adds: I'm sure it was the last ta do in Taylorville, frankly. [SandyDuncan] Why, is Scott from Taylorville. [RobertArmin] He says: Just outside. [RobertArmin] alleyfan asks: Do you remember when you sang "Look Around" on a TV special? I never forgot that. [SandyDuncan] Sounds a lot like the place I come from [SandyDuncan] What show and what is that? I sang "Try to Remember" on the muppet show. [SandyDuncan] How does look around go?? [RobertArmin] What was the Taylorville connection? Was that where the series took place or what? [SandyDuncan] Yes. Funny Face took place there [RobertArmin] Such a memory I have. [SandyDuncan] Actually it was where my character came from [SandyDuncan] It was based in LA [RobertArmin] I remember, vividly, the United California Bank commercials you did. [SandyDuncan] Nicolas Janappoporoupoulas [RobertArmin] I beg your pardon? [RobertArmin] Oh, the man in the commercial! [SandyDuncan] You obviously don't remember it that well [RobertArmin] Right! [SandyDuncan] Yes. Give that man a cigar [RobertArmin] I got it -- just a little slow on the uptake. [RobertArmin] alleyfan adds: (regarding the song) It was shortly after the eye incident. It's a Bergmans song recorded by Sergio Mendes. "All the secrets of the world in a blade of grass... Look around, just look around..." [RobertArmin] Stew asks: Sandy, do you have an address for fan mail? [SandyDuncan] Vaguely remember such a song. Did so many specials in those days. It was our MTV. Remember it was 33 years ago. [RobertArmin] When you were 11. [SandyDuncan] Yes. Write me care of - [SandyDuncan] DGRW [SandyDuncan] 1501 Broadway, Rm #703 [SandyDuncan] NY, NY 10036 [RobertArmin] Well, I told you 90 minutes would go by fast! [RobertArmin] I can't believe it's 10:00 already! [SandyDuncan] You lied [RobertArmin] !!! [SandyDuncan] Me either. don [SandyDuncan] Don's fingers are numb. [RobertArmin] Thank you so much for joining me -- both Sandy and Don (the master typist) [RobertArmin] So are mine! [SandyDuncan] Sandy went to bed an hour ago [SandyDuncan] Just kidding [RobertArmin] LOL [SandyDuncan] Next time in person. [RobertArmin] I wouldn't be surprised. The answers were so intelligent and thought-provoking. [RobertArmin] It had to be Don [SandyDuncan] Actually had a great time. But I have to learn how to type [RobertArmin] Yeah, it's a good second career. [SandyDuncan] Are we off the "air"? [RobertArmin] Thanks everyone for joining us tonight. Next week all about The Grass Harp! [RobertArmin] Not yet. But you will be when you say goodbye [SandyDuncan] Let us know when you're on. Maybe Sandy can ask a question [RobertArmin] Next Monday night - 8:30 - 10 PM [SandyDuncan] Bye Bye now Bye Bye [SandyDuncan] We'll write it down. [RobertArmin] Kenward Elmslie will be thrilled! [RobertArmin] Thanks again. Now click log off. [RobertArmin] Bye everyone. [RobertArmin] Thanks. |
